In 2018, timber construction was used for 18.7 % of the new buildings erected in Germany, and its share of the market is continuing to rise. Due to the increased demand for more housing the construction industry is optimistic about its future.
Business is therefore good for the construction industry, which is optimistic about its future. And timber and engineered wood products are enjoying ever-greater popularity. They have finally emerged from the shadow of other building materials, and rightly so.
Besides their environmental advantages, modern wood-based materials have many favourable properties that make them especially well-suited for construction. For example, today’s versions help prevent fires from spreading and are acoustically insulating. More and more owner-builders, architects and contractors are therefore opting for timber and wood-based materials.
There are now numerous timber houses that impressively illustrate astonishing capabilities of wood for realising a vast range of architectural possibilities.
Timber construction has many facets, making it extraordinarily adaptable to a wide range of conditions and requirements. Whether it’s for schools or childcare centres, housing in metropolitan areas or industrial or commercial facilities, the many advantages of building with wood extend far beyond ecological and sustainability considerations. Here are some highlights:
Officially approved by the building authorities and ideal for erecting healthy homes and buildings using environmentally friendly solid timber construction methods: that’s the SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB system. Wood, a natural raw material, meets innovative technology to combine the benefits of single-skin solid construction with those of traditional timber construction, thus avoiding problematic aspects such as joints, transitions between different materials, entrapped moisture and long construction times.
Large, prefabricated and extremely dimensionally stable walls, ceilings and roof elements can be simply and flexibly created with dimensions up to 18 x 2.8m. The end result is lastingly windtight buildings with a minimum of joints. As the SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB system involves extensive prefabrication, it even lets complex and sophisticated modern architectural concepts be realised in a minimum of time. The system leaves no wishes unmet, whether it is used on its own as a complete building solution or combined with other construction methods.
The storey-high formats can be taken advantage of to erect buildings with only a single SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB panel on each side. The system delivers all of the advantages of conventional solid timber wall, ceiling and roof construction while enabling major gains in efficiency and cost savings. It is even approved for buildings up to 13m high, units with up to 400m² of floor space, subterranean structures and various other less-common building types.
With story-high formats of 2.80 meters in height, buildings can be constructed over their entire length with only one SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB element. The system offers all advantages of a solid wall, ceiling and roof construction. It saves costs, time and due to the low wall thickness of the elements of the interior space. This creates a plus in terms of living space without losses in terms of thermal insulation or sound insulation.
With the SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB construction system, houses up to building class 5 can be realized.
Buildings made of SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB achieve a service life of 100 years and more and are just as durable as buildings made of other building materials.
What’s the best way to acquaint prospects with a solid timber system that’s ideally suited for modular construction? Right, by giving them an opportunity to directly experience its properties and benefits first-hand! This was the idea behind our decision to build a life-sized module for directly exploring the system’s possibilities.
Here is all the information about the SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB Show Module.
The SWISS KRONO LONGBOARD OSB is an excellent example of how closely we, as a manufacturer of building materials, work together with our customers. This results in innovative new products that strengthen our market leadership. In the past five years, wood construction has continued to grow in Germany and Europe. Fast and flexible constructions are more in demand than ever. As a result, the demand for large formats made of OSB is also increasing, as this saves construction time and costs. In order to meet this growing demand, we have already rebuilt production and logistics at the SWISS KRONO factory in Heiligengrabe in 2016. Since then, we have been the only manufacturer in the world that is able to produce OSB boards of various qualities in lengths of up to 18 meters.
SWISS KRONO LONGBOARD OSB is the perfect wood construction material for large-dimensioned, joint- and butt-free applications in wood construction.
SWISS KRONO LONGBOARD® OSB is an excellent example of how closely we work with our customers. This cooperation gives rise to a steady stream of innovative new products which in turn strengthen our market leadership. In recent years, fast, flexible construction methods – and especially timber construction – have steadily grown in popularity in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. The popularity of large-format OSB products is also increasing as a result, as they are both faster and more economic to use. To meet this surging demand, we reorganised and expanded our manufacturing operation at the SWISS KRONO plant in Heiligengrabe south of Berlin back in 2016 – thus becoming the world’s only manufacturer able to produce OSB boards of various grades in lengths of up to 18 metres.
