Building schools and childcare facilities with SWISS KRONO OSB

In a study carried out by Holzcluster Steiermark GmbH for the Austrian Human Research Institute’s “School Without Stress” project, children using classrooms made of wood experienced school as less stressful. They were able to perform better and had a slower heartbeat; the risk of suffering a heart attack was therefore also diminished. Other interesting observations were that there were fewer conflicts in timber rooms and the children felt less stressed by the teacher. Their ability to concentrate was generally better in rooms made of wood. In short: children experienced school as more pleasant and their health also benefited. This in itself more than justifies selecting this material. Fast, flexible construction with timber modules

Faster, more flexible use is also a strong argument in favour of timber construction. Large multistorey school buildings can be erected with prefabricated timber modules and be ready to use in the space of just a few weeks. To some extent, buildings of this type are also implemented as temporary solutions. After they have fulfilled their purpose, the modules can be taken down and reassembled elsewhere for another purpose.

Most people like wood: how it smells, the look of the grain, and its warm feel. Even small children respond positively to it. Wood surfaces convey a feeling of comfort, safety and naturalness, thus creating a feel-good environment and optimally meeting the prerequisites for learning.
