To calculate a wall’s heat transfer coefficient – u-value for short – it’s necessary to consider all of the materials involved. SWISS KRONO’s online calculator makes this easy to do.
You can choose from various board materials: not only SWISS KRONO OSB but also plasterboard, gypsum fibreboard, rigid insulation and others as well. If a material isn’t included in the list, it’s also possible to define new ones and enter the corresponding data yourself. For infill insulation, you can choose from three different lambda values; it’s only necessary to specify the thickness. If the automatically inserted values aren’t correct, they too can be edited. In the case of infill insulation, the percentage of solid wood in the form of rafters or risers is taken into account. You can also adjust this value.
The following example shows the calculation for a SWISS KRONO exterior wall with F30 fire protection rating:
The calculation for this exterior wall is as follows (without considering the counterbattens and curtain wall):

The results include the thermal resistance and u-value for the wall’s cross-section and frame, as well as the overall thermal resistance (R) and heat transfer coefficient (U).
