Impact sound insulation under laminate

An insulating underlay under SWISS KRONO laminate will greatly enhance your living comfort, as it significantly reduces the running noise in the room (ambient sounds or walking noise). You will also be doing your neighbors a big favor, as the impact sound insulation will ensure that they no longer hear every step you take through the ceiling.
Walking and impact sound insulation is therefore an important addition to the laminate. In addition to dampening running noises, an insulating underlay has other positive features:

  • additional thermal insulation
  • Balancing out the irregularities in the floor

If you are laying new laminate flooring, installing impact sound insulation under it is only a minor additional effort, but it has a massive effect. It’s definitely worth it!

What different impact sound insulation options are available?

The variety of impact sound insulation options is large. The decision depends on the requirements of use and, not least, on the budget. Impact sound insulation is available from different materials and in different formats and thicknesses. For example, you ca choose the right impact sound insulation for your requirements and demands from four different SWISS KRONO insulation underlays:

With every SWISS KRONO insulation underlay, minor unevenness in the sub-floor can be leveled out. Somewhat thicker material such as the 2.8 mm thick SWISS KRONO Superior Sound can balance out the sub-floor a little more than thinner materials such as the 2 mm thick SWISS KRONO Basic. However, impact sound insulation is not the method of choice to compensate for larger irregularities. An insulation underlay can compensate for a maximum difference of 3 mm per 1 m. If the height differences are greater, they must be adjusted separately.

How is impact sound insulation installed?

Impact sound insulation is laid at a 90 °angle to the laying direction of the laminate floor. This will prevent the longitudinal joints of the insulation underlay and laminate from lying on top of each other. Unlike the laminate panels, let there be no distance to the wall in case of the impact sound insulation. If a vapor barrier is integrated in your insulation underlay, it should be laid 3 cm high on the wall. The sheets should be laid seamlessly and also glued together. An overlap is provided for the SWISS KRONO Basic Plus, which is equipped with an adhesive tape to make laying as easy as possible for you.
With SWISS KRONO Premium Sound and Superior Sound, attach the adhesive tape to the insulation underlay from below. With most other products, you can simply stick the adhesive tape from above onto the two sheets that are to be connected for stabilization. The panels do not have to be glued together. Laying them next to each other will suffice. To make sure that nothing slips, you can also use adhesive strips for the panels. It is best to use a good, sharp cutter knife to cut the impact sound insulation to size.

#Underlaymaterial

A selection of different underlay materials is available for the various living requirements. A vapor barrier must be installed on a mineral sub-floor before the impact and room sound underlay is laid. The basis for laying the laminate # cut-and-click installation is created.

What must be taken into account for impact sound insulation on underfloor heating?

If you have underfloor heating, you must pay attention to the thermal resistance! Laminate and impact sound insulation together should not exceed a value of 0.15 m² K/W, as the desired warmth cannot be achieved otherwise or the heating needs to be increased. In addition, your underfloor heating must be infinitely adjustable so that too much heat is not given off to the impact sound insulation within a short period of time. The maximum usable thickness of the laminate is mentioned on all SWISS KRONO insulation underlays.
