New Soundproofing Modules with SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB

The tested acoustically insulating wall and ceiling modules which are available in the SWISS KRONO PLANNING tool have now been extended. It now contains nine ceiling modules and ten wall modules with SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB, all of which have been tested and certified by ift Rosenheim.

SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB is a solid timber product which can be flexibly used to create highly prefabricated construction modules characterised by good ecological footprints and excellent thermal insulation values. Walls, ceilings and roof elements with extremely high dimensional stability can be flexibly and easily fashioned in sizes all the way up to 18 by 2.8 metres. They can then be used to make lastingly airtight building constructions with a minimum of joints.

This timber construction system scores points not only with calculable fire protection, but also with good acoustic insulation, and also applied to “naked” boards without any additional finishing. To ensure that they also effectively prevent sound transmission between adjacent terraced houses, SWISS KRONO also requested ift to test corresponding party wall constructions.

Acoustic insulation plays an especially important role in blocks of flats. Greatly varying noise levels can occur there both within and between individual units, for example as a result of playing children, practicing of musical instruments or barking dogs. This makes it all the more important to install good-quality insulation.

SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB achieves its excellent acoustic insulation levels with, amongst other things, its high bulk density of 640 kg/m³. Intelligently designed wall and ceiling modules ensure optimal noise attenuation. For example, an appropriately designed module with 175mm-thick MAGNUMBOARD® OSB has an airborne sound reduction coefficient (R_w) of 73 dB and a transmitted impact sound coefficient (L_n,w ) of 43 dB.

All of these wall and ceiling modules are included in the SWISS KRONO PLANNING tool, which lets you very easily identify appropriate components that also comply with the building regulations of the German state in which you’re building. The possibilities can be filtered in various ways depending on the fire and sound protection requirements in each case, letting planners and architects quickly find the ideal solutions for their projects.
