Renovation work on the historic engine shed in Wittstock/Dosse took around two years before it could be repurposed into the Design Station, the new marketing and event center from the SWISS KRONO Group.
The brick building’s history began around 1885 when it was constructed on the town’s railway station site. The engine shed was significantly expanded in 1910 and 1930. It consists of a single-story hall with five entrance gates, three additional halls, each with one entrance, and two extensions.
The semi-circular brick building belonged to the depot and was used for maintaining, repairing and cleaning locomotives. The building had stood empty and was in urgent need of renovation since being decommissioned in 1994.
In the course of urban development work for the 2019 Brandenburg horticultural show, the town of Wittstock/Dosse acquired the buildings on the railway station site and carried out impeccable renovations on them. Only the historic engine shed remained dormant and unused, as no suitable concept for future repurposing could be found.
In 2019, the town of Wittstock/Dosse and the SWISS KRONO Group sealed a deal concerning redevelopment of the engine shed into a state-of-the-art marketing and event center. This extraordinary transformation of the engine shed is a fantastic example of a public/private partnership.

The renovation was carried out in line with generally accepted conservation practices and ensured that the Design Station’s historic character was retained and complemented by the modern, open architecture inside the engine shed. This design is ideally suited for a wide range of events of different sizes.
The SWISS KRONO Group hosts in-house company events at its Design Station and also uses a portion of the building as offices.
The event center can be hired for corporate occasions.
