The Green Energy project in 3 minutes krono

News | SWISS KRONO France

The Green Energy project is a large-scale decarbonisation project through the industrial and energy transformation of the Swiss Krono France manufacturing site in Sully-sur-Loire (Loiret). Objective: 35,000 tonnes of fossil CO2 avoided per year. The project as a whole, which was twice awarded the "Plan de Relance", requires an investment of more than €100 million and two years of work.

June 2022: signing of the project
Supported by Swiss Krono France, Dalkia in the Centre-Ouest region and Meridiam, the Green Energy project - the signing of which was finalised a few days ago - will replace almost all the gas consumed at Swiss Krono's manufacturing site in Sully-sur-Loire with biomass from the production process.

"We are delighted to see the project come to fruition today with the formalisation of our partnership and the start of work. With a view to decarbonisation and continuous improvement of our industrial processes, the Green Energy project will enable us to secure the site and jobs through better cost control and by strengthening our production capacity, while the RE2020 thermal regulations will give pride of place to bio-based materials by 2030," emphasises Vincent Adam, President of Swiss Krono France.

A decarbonisation project through industrial and energy transformation
In concrete terms, Swiss Krono France will first integrate two low-temperature dryers into its production process. The company will then install a multi-fuel biomass boiler supplied with wood by-products (bark, dust) and production waste, and a smoke condenser to feed the two new dryers. Finally, the project will continue with the installation of additional industrial tools and production equipment.

"The Green Energy project involves our teams in the complete transformation of the energy model of the Sully-sur-Loire plant. The challenge is to ensure that between 80% and 95% of the site's energy needs are met by renewable energy sources, using a highly technical biomass facility that we will design, build and maintain," says Bruno Moras, Dalkia's Regional Director for the Centre-Ouest region.

More than €100 million in investments
The entire Green Energy project requires an investment of more than €100 million (including €70 million for the first two phases) and two years of work. The project has received €3.8 million in support from the French government's stimulus plan and €11 million from the BCIAT decarbonisation plan (ADEME). Meridiam is providing the long-term financial investment of €76m, in particular for the new high-efficiency multi-fuel biomass boiler.

"As a company with a mission, this decarbonisation project fits perfectly with our investment strategy aimed at supporting and developing infrastructures and actions that contribute to improving the quality of life of populations. Green Energy contributes fully to the low-carbon economy and we are delighted to accompany, together with Dalkia, Swiss Krono France in this ambitious industrial and energy transformation project for the region" concludes Thierry Déau, Chairman and CEO of Meridiam.
