3 questions to Vincent Adam, President of Swiss Krono France

News | SWISS KRONO France

How did the Green Energy project start?
"The Green Energy project was launched at the beginning of 2020. At our production site in Sully-sur-Loire, we identified a triple challenge. We wanted to reduce the site's dust emissions, in line with European regulations (BREF), and at the same time reduce our energy consumption. We also wanted to increase our production capacity for OSB, structural panels for the construction industry. This in a context where the demand for wood construction is increasing, driven by regulations (RE2020) and the need to decarbonise construction.
It is in this context that Swiss Krono France has joined forces with Dalkia, a specialist in energy performance for the low-carbon industry.

What will be the first steps in Sully-sur-Loire?
"Swiss Krono France will first replace two high temperature dryers with two low temperature dryers. This transition is in line with sustainability, compliance and the long-term future of the site. Indeed, the low-temperature dryers will reduce the site's dust emissions and enable it to meet the new standards required by European regulations (BREF) in terms of dust emissions. In addition, 70% of the energy consumed by the Swiss Krono France plant in Sully-sur-Loire is used for drying the material. This makes drying the site's main energy consumption item. Thanks to the low-temperature dryers, the site's energy requirements will be reduced by 5 to 10%.

How will the Green Energy project be carried out?
"The Green Energy project will involve all of our teams as well as Dalkia's teams for two years. It represents a technological and human challenge, with the creation of integrated project teams between Swiss Krono France and Dalkia.
It is also a major financial investment that Swiss Krono France is making today.  The Green Energy project as a whole requires an investment of more than €100 million (including €70 million for the first two phases). We are therefore pleased to be a double winner of the Stimulus Plan, the project has received support of €3.8 million under the Stimulus Plan and €11 million under the BCIAT decarbonisation plan (ADEME). The Green Energy project will enable us to secure the site and jobs through better cost control and by strengthening our production capacity.
