Six Tips When Buying Laminate Flooring

During a recent conversation with Swiss Krono customer service, we heard six valuable and practical tips for buying laminate flooring — and thought you might find them helpful. Because a flooring purchase falls into the category of big-ticket item for the home, it’s good to be prepared for the unexpected.

Here are the tips that our customer-service experts shared:

  1. Always hold onto your laminate flooring purchase receipt.
  2. Remove the end of the carton your laminate planks came in. You’re looking for the end with the decor number and other information. Take the receipt and staple it to the carton end, then file them away with your important paperwork. (It’s such a small and simple thing, but most people don’t think of flooring as a major purchase until there’s a problem.)
  3. Take a picture of both sides of the plank and the box label. Store those images on your phone or computer and print them to keep with your important papers.
  4. In case you ever want to remove your laminate flooring to install it elsewhere, hold onto your installation instructions or bookmark the link to your installation instructions so that you can refer to them.
  5. Buy an extra box or two of laminate-flooring planks so that you can easily do a plank replacement instead of having to replace the whole floor. You’ll find this particularly handy if you have a leak or an issue that only affects a small portion of the floor. It’s also helpful in case your particular laminate flooring style is discontinued down the road.
  6. Finally, be aware of your laminate-flooring product warranty. Read through it so you know what to do and not do when caring for your laminate floor.
