SWISS KRONO at the 4th German Timber Construction Congress in Berlin

14.07.2023 | Noticias | SWISS KRONO Germany

“Building with wood in urban spaces” was the overarching theme of this year’s German Timber Construction Congress. And it makes perfect sense both that this event is held in Berlin and that Germany’s Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Building, Klara Geywitz, and Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Cem Özdemir, both personally attended to speak out in favour of building with wood in general and encourage the use of serial and modularised construction approaches in particular. A new timber construction initiative designed jointly by the two of them and approved by the Federal Cabinet (Germany’s chief executive body consisting of the federal chancellor and ministers) is going to promote the use of wood, a sustainable raw material, in the construction sector to help protect the climate, use resources more efficiently and erect buildings faster.

This support is enabling timber builders to face the future with confidence despite generally difficult conditions in the construction industry. Scientists, company representatives, politicians and members of thinktanks all stressed the importance of using wood, a climate-friendly raw and building material, in densely settled metropolitan areas in particular. Within the scope of this wide-ranging event, themes including circular and market-appropriate building, certification and financing processes, the European Green Deal and Eurocodes, technical building systems, designs for multistorey hybrid buildings and much else besides were presented and discussed.

SWISS KRONO was on hand with an information stand. We exhibited our OSB portfolio and presented the SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB solid wood  construction system together with our licensee 3BTEC. Even if the mood at this fourth congress wasn’t quite as euphoric as in the preceding years, we’re optimistic about the long-term prospects. We’re convinced of the potential of timber construction and are actively engaging in a wide range of activities to help pave the way for this building material.
